We were honored this month to have students from Santiago High School Special Education Division visit El Sobrante Landfill. We planned a great day for them where they got to tour the landfill, learn about recycling and make crafts from recycled materials.
The highlight of the tour was when they met master falconer, Henry, and his trained hawk. The students enjoyed hearing Henry talk about how he trains his falcons and hawks and demonstrated the bird’s flying abilities. El Sobrante Landfill hires these trained predatory birds to ward off flocks of "nuisance birds" from the landfill.
We enjoy sharing all the great activities that are happening at the landfill and wildlife preserve. With the summer school break here, this is a great opportunity to plan a fun environmental activity with your kids. If you are interested in scheduling a free tour of the landfill and wildlife preserve just call our community relations manager, Lily, and she can coordinate something fun and educational for your kids to enjoy.
