El Sobrante Landfill is a Class 3 regional disposal facility permitted to accept up to 10,000 tons per day, seven days per week. It employs approximately 40 full-time employees. Landfill operations are overseen by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, and the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health.

This month, our company received two noteworthy awards – one recognizing us as “Climate Action Leader” by the California Climate Action Registry. The second was being named one of 2008 “World’s Most Ethical Companies” by the Ethisphere Institute. We are proud of our values, ethics, diversity and efforts to be a responsible partner to our environment and glad to be recognized for it!

This month, the California Climate Action Registry named Waste Management a “Climate Action Leader™.” Waste Management earned this distinction by voluntarily gathering and reporting its greenhouse gas emissions inventory with the organization, of which it is a member.

Waste Management also had the honor of being named on Ethisphere’s second-annual World’s Most Ethical Companies list. Waste Management was the only one listed in the “environmental services and equipment” category.

June was a great month for landfill supervisor, Nicholas Godfrey, who celebrated three years with Waste Management and celebrated his first Father’s Day as dad to his son Ronan, born earlier in the year.

We were honored this month to have students from Santiago High School Special Education Division visit El Sobrante Landfill. We planned a great day for them where they got to tour the landfill, learn about recycling and make crafts from recycled materials.
