El Sobrante Landfill is a Class 3 regional disposal facility permitted to accept up to 10,000 tons per day, seven days per week. It employs approximately 40 full-time employees. Landfill operations are overseen by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, and the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health.

We enjoyed talking with many of you recently at the Temescal Valley Community Faire. We hope that you took home one of our reusable grocery bags and that you will use that as an alternative to disposable plastic bags. The great demand for energy last month as a result of the hot weather underscored the importance of producing renewable energy for the local community. This is why we are proud to announce that we recently invested close to $500,000 to add 21 new wells to our landfill gas collection system.

This year?s 8th Annual Temescal Valley Community Faire was filled with music, food and the opportunity to learn about Temescal Valley?s history. For us, it was an opportunity to show off all the great projects that are taking place at the El Sobrante Landfill, such as our gas-to-energy station that generates 3.84 megawatts of electricity ? enough to power 6,000 homes.

El Sobrante Landfill recently invested nearly $500,000 to expand its landfill gas collection system. Twenty-one gas collection wells were added to an already existing system of 160 gas collection wells that are located throughout the landfill.

With the recent rains, the Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District wants to make sure residents understand the importance of protecting our storm drains. The storm drain is designed to drain excess rain and ground water away from paved streets, parking lots, sidewalks and roofs and not as a disposal waste system.
