You won’t see any special effects or stunt doubles in Waste Management’s new television advertisements that started airing on TV Sept. 4 – who needs them when you have recognizable equipment and talented employees ready to take the starring role? One such “star” employee is Waste Management of Orange County’s own Jose “Paco” Gonzalez, a driver who is one of only two employees company-wide to be featured in the ads. READ MORE >

Waste Management of Orange County would like to congratulate its employees in Santa Ana and Irvine for successfully ratifying a new five-year contract in October. We commend our employees for recognizing the value of the contract, which provides considerable wage increases, competitive benefits and improved language in safety and other areas of the contract. We are pleased that the union and the company were able to agree on a new contract that we believe is very fair, and provides benefits for our employees retroactive to Oct. 1. READ MORE >

Hoping to more quickly help employees or visitors in the event of a cardiac arrest, Waste Management of Orange County this summer installed one automated external defibrillator (AED) at each of its sites in Santa Ana and Irvine.

As part of the installation, several employees at each site took a training course in how to operate an AED. An AED is a small, portable device that analyzes the heart’s rhythm and can deliver a defibrillation shock if it determines one is needed. Once turned on, the AED guides the user on how to operate the device by providing voice prompts to accompany the CPR already in progress. READ MORE >

SB1305, a bill signed by Governor Schwarzenegger on July 12, 2006, prohibits the placement of home-generated “sharps” in solid waste and recycling containers effective September 1, 2008. In light of this bill, several cities in Orange County are taking advantage of a program offered by Waste Management to safely handle and dispose of sharps such as used hypodermic needles, lancets or test strips, via a mail-back program.

Mission Viejo is the first city in Orange County to adopt a sharps mail-back program, which launched in October, and Laguna Beach will soon initiate a program of its own. READ MORE >
